Texas born and LA based actor Jesse Holland appears in his third Straightaway production as Marcus Deville in the Chronicles of the Roman Numeral X. Deville is a character caught in a classic conundrum. As a high government official, he has a deep sense of responsibility and duty to his position, and as a man he has a need to possess the love and affection of a woman. In Deville’s society, those two factors become in conflict and makes Deville ripe for exploitation. Holland brings to any part, a sensitivity and gentility, that contrasts his rough hewn western appearance. In American Skin, he played a man with a pathological anger issue that eventually led him to murder. The character agonizes over his condition and the problems it has brought his family, yet in the end succumbs to his illness and kills again.
