This beautiful photo of a blast bunker on the Aerojet site was provided by Andrew Kraus. Mr. Kraus is a leading historian and author on South Florida rocketry and military installations. AJ260, the movie, is moving towards an early July 07 completion. Mr. Kraus will provide historical data and commentary for the piece. AJ260 will also feature original photos taken by famed South Florida photographer Jack Levy, and videography by Greg Coupland. The AJ260 was the largest rocket motor ever produced, and according to Mr. Kraus, during it’s testing, created the highest decibel noise level ever created by man. But, AJ never saw the launch pad at Cape Canaveral. Despite it’s might, the project was dropped by NASA. All that remains is the ruins of the manufacturing facility, and the dreams of the rocketeers who toiled in the Everglades with visions of exploring the moon. AJ260 is more than a piece on Industrial Archeology, but a peek back to a time in American History, when as a nation of people, we shared a single goal and purpose. Over half of the Americans alive today, were not when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the Lunar Surface. We the social angst and upheaval of the 60s, it’s hard to conceive such a monumental accomplishment, and the support of the citizenry to that goal.
